IGBS Celebrates The 10-Year Anniversary Of The 15th Asian Games Doha 2006
Working in partnership with TWI (today known as IMG), HBS created Doha Asian Games Broadcast Services (DAGBS) in 2006. The joint venture was designed with the single-purpose of providing the host broadcast solution for the 15th Asian Games Doha 2006 – which held its Opening Ceremony on 1 December 2006.
This project, the largest at the time in terms of investment, number of participants, amount of sports and in terms of the overall broadcast quality, contributed to establish Qatar as a major nation on the sporting field. It also offered the opportunity to broadcast a diverse array of sports, ranging from chess to football, sepaktakraw to kabaddi and aquatics to wushu.
The competition lasted for 15 days, and the range of sports and venues during the event was greater than that for the Summer Olympic Games.
DAGBS was later renamed IGBS, and went on to participate at the 16th Asian Games Guangzhou 2010 and 17th Asian Games Incheon 2014, as well as successfully delivering a number of other sporting projects – including the 2007 America’s Cup in Valencia, the 2011 Asian Winter Games in Astana-Almaty and the 2015 SEA Games in Singapore. The venture was recently named official Rugby World Cup Host Broadcaster for the 2019 event in Japan.
